Big, big weekend for Charlie: he said his first word, peacock, which sounds like "puh-CAH," and he took his first steps, at Greg and Maya's house.
In case you are wondering, a peacock from the farm across the street spends his days at The Big House, waking everyone up at 5:00 (honk, ah-AH!), pooping all over the deck, and delighting Charlie. Charlie did cry "mamamamamaaaaaaa" on his birthday when I left the room for a couple of minutes--I heard him on the monitor. But he hasn't said it since. We've heard "puh-CAH," accompanied by pointing at the peacock out the window, too many times to count in the past two days.
As for the walking, he'd taken one tentative step a few times this past week. Today we stopped to say hi to cousin Nosi and he put together the first good string of them. He was real casual about it--a smooth operator. Then Jeff saw him do it again on our newly beautified porch floor.
If we don't keep an eye on him, he might walk all the way back to The Big House to see the puh-CAH.
