My mother-in-law is the head nurse practitioner at an OB group so that's where I go to have babies. They treat me like a rock star because they love Mary so much. One day my doctor said to me, out of nowhere, "I would do anything for you, you know that, don't you?"
So I said OK, my brother is a baseball broadcaster, can you ask Billy to take a call from him for networking purposes? Billy is her stepson--Bill Simmons, the most talked-about sportswriter in America. My doctor shrank away from me. "Oh, I don't think he would take that call," she said. So I guess what she really meant when she said she would do anything was that she would deliver my babies, since that's her job and all. I called her bluff! No hard feelings--I really like her. I just thought of this little story because of what happened to me with my credit card this week.
Last month I got a credit card bill for $14.00 and sort of half spaced on it and half ignored it, and this month the bill had a $29.00 late fee. I called them up and entered my credit card number and then my social security number and then pressed five and got Andrew:
Andrew: Thank you for calling Citi Cards, how can I help you?
Me: Hi, I just got my bill and there's a $29.00 late fee for a bill that was only $14.00 and I just think that's unfair.
Andrew: I don't understand what you mean by unfair. We still haven't received a payment from you. It's not as if you paid late. You haven't paid the $14.00 yet.
Me: That's ridiculous, it was only $14.00
Andrew: We charge $29.00 on all skipped payments under $100.00. It's in the card agreement.
Me (Thinking I am so ballsy, he's going to take off the $29.00 and throw in some sort of $50.00 gift voucher just to keep me as a valued Citi customer): Well then can you please cancel my account because that's just rude.
Andrew: Alrighty, your account is canceled, you will receive a confirmation in the mail.
...And now I have no credit card.
